Kellen's Capstone

I have committed to two organizations to complete my capstone.
Shelter House
Shelter House is dedicated to serving the unhoused population by providing housing through various shelters. I will collaborate with their Housing First Program, which provides individuals with permanent housing. During my time here, I will gather clients who are having difficulty transitioning from homelessness to steady housing. Together with these clients, we will create goals that are important to them and that they believe will help with a smoother transition. My role is to administer targeted interventions based on these goals and monitor progress as the program evolves.
Heart of Northside
Heart of Northside is a non-profit organization that promotes the health of the Northside neighborhood's residents. The organization initiates various projects, including a rooftop garden, blood pressure stations, and recipes for nutritious and affordable meals. During my time, I will work towards integrating the departments of Xavier University within each program to facilitate the launch of these initiatives. This project aims to change the trajectory of Heart of Northside by incorporating a nursing, nutrition, psychology, and other relevant curriculum that aligns with the organization's goals.
Capstone So Far
Preparing for capstone has been a whirlwind of excitement. With my site and faculty mentors, I have created a rough outline detailing the structure of my weekly activities at each site. I have also established self-directed goals that will enhance my experience. Ongoing collaboration with both sites continues as we expand on the project's outcomes. To ensure the legitimacy of the process, I am currently editing and finalizing my IRB for the Shelterhouse project, which will be submitted before the commencement of the capstone. I am honored to be on this journey in collaboration with Xavier, Heart of Northside, and Shelterhouse. I cannot wait to see where the process takes us!
